ABOUT US
Our Church History
The Greater Love Baptist Church Inc. founded and organized by the late Rev. John L. Marshall on October 15, 1997. The organizational meeting held at New Hickory Hill M.B. Church where Rev. William Faulkner was Pastor. On October 19, 1997, worship services began at The New Bethel Educational Building in Germantown, Tennessee. The church exemplified God’s guidance with the desire to build a church. The Pastor and officers recognized the need and welcome the opportunity to purchased land on May 25, 1998, so Pastor Marshall went to seek land for purchase. On June 14, 1998, Pastor Marshall discussed with the members an agreement on the purchase of land on Hacks Cross and Shelby Drive. The church proposed a plan and purchased seven acres of the land in December of 1998. On July 27, 1998, a building fund account was opened, and an appeal made for each member to make pledges and develop fundraisers towards this project.
On Monday, September 24, 2001, our dearly beloved Pastor was called home to be with the Lord. With the prayers of our members, family, and friends, the Greater Love Baptist Church family continue to fulfill the vision that was given to Pastor John Marshall to build the church. The construction for the church started October 2001.
In January 2002, the Rev. Dr. Curlie Relliford was placed in position as Pastor and Prime Motivator of the Greater Love Baptist Church Family with majority votes. The Holy Spirit placed him here to complete the dream of Rev. John Marshall. Dr. Relliford had a vision that could uphold the congregation with the faith to complete the phase of the dream and take the Greater Love Family to new heights in the service of the Lord. After serving for several months Dr. Relliford resigned as Pastor. The members appointed the late Rev. Jim Washington Sr. as the interim spiritual leader. In January 2003, the members elected Rev. Jerry Taylor, Sr. as the third pastor of Greater Love Baptist Church. Rev. Taylor served for 19 years and resigned in February 2022. The church appointed Minister Caleb A. Armour, Sr. to serve as interim Spiritual Leader in March 2022 and then an election was held on September 18, 2022. Minister Caleb A. Armour, Sr. was elected as the fourth pastor of Greater Love Baptist Church.
To God Be the Glory for the vision of Pastor Marshall and the Members of Greater Love Baptist Church for remaining faithful and dedicated to the serving and worshiping for the last 25 years. The Greater Love Family will continue to live by Proverbs 3: 5-6 and be that beckon of light in the community by operating in the spirit of excellence and leading souls to Christ.
Our Mission
To operate in the spirit of excellence, while leading souls to Christ by allowing God’s spirit to produce love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control in our place of worship and our community.
Our Vision
Greater Love will be a church that is committed to being Christ focused and Word driven with Servant Hearts. A body of Christ that is, steadfast, unmovable, always busy in the work for the Lord, knowing that nothing they do in the Lord’s service is ever useless.
Our Belief
We believe that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, but if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
